This after Sony bought “Ericsson AB’s 50 percent stake in their 10-year-old mobile-phone venture.”
I have 10 words for you: Sony Ericsson Philippines will be renamed Sony Mobile Communications Philippines.
According to Sony Philippines, Inc. president and managing director Takao Kuroda, it’s going to be the same as Sony Computer Entertainment, which handles PlayStation in the country. There will just be a change of name, but it’s basically a different, independent entity… as of now.
“As of now.” He said that twice. Listen to our interview with him yesterday.

Does this mean that the rumors I heard on the same day Sony Philippines held an event at The Mind Museum about two weeks ago have teeth? That Sony Philippines will eventually absorb Sony Ericsson Philippines (mostly those from the marketing department)? That the latter will become a division of Sony’s local outpost? That dealers will handle the sales of Sony mobile phones?
I guess we’ll just have to wait and see. For now, I’m waiting for the official arrival of the Sony Xperia S, which will sell at P27,990.
