The new Nokia Lumia 820 and Lumia 920 smartphones running Microsoft’s Windows 8 platform are looking to accomplish what their predecessors could not: to put the Finnish firm back on top of the global game.
Regaining “top dog” status may not be easy, especially in the Philippines where Androids have become the smartphone norm. But achieving as much isn’t a pipe dream either.
Nokia Lumia 820
The next evolutionary step after the Nokia Lumia 800, the Windows 8-powered Lumia 820 is the smaller and curvier of the new Lumias, with an AMOLED screen measuring 4.3 inches diagonally.
The Nokia Lumia 820 is reportedly fast and responsive because of a dual-core Krait processor working at 1.5GHz, not to mention its 1GB RAM allocation. It rocks a pretty decent camera, too—one with an 8-megapixel sensor and a Carl Zeiss optics.
There’s also 8GB of internal storage here, and unlike other Windows Phone devices, the mobile allows for more content via a microSD card expansion slot.
For fashionistas, the option for interchangeable rear covers (in black, cyan, gray, purple, red, white, and yellow) lets you match the Nokia Lumia 820 to virtually any outfit. For the Everyman who’s after a bit of convenience, there’s an optional accessory backplate for cable-free charging.

Nokia Lumia 820 specs:
- Qualcomm MSM8960 Snapdragon chipset
- 1.5GHz dual-core Krait CPU
- Adreno 225 GPU

- 8GB internal storage with microSD card slot up to 32GB
- 8-megapixel rear camera with Carl Zeiss lens, dual LED flash
- VGA front camera
- 4.3-inch display with Nokia ClearBlack technology (800 x 480 resolution; 217 pixel density)
- 1650mAh battery
- Window Phone 8 OS
Nokia Lumia 920
Don’t let the familiar design fool you into thinking that the Nokia Lumia 920 is mediocre in any way. You’re looking at a gadget that packs the next-gen Windows Phone 8 software and the Finns’ PureView electronics. And despite missing the Nokia PureView 808′s 41-megapixel sensor, the camera inside this smartphone is about as good as it is going to get for WP8 handsets (at the moment). After all, more megapixels doesn’t exactly equate with better quality.
With its PureView tech, 8-megapixel sensor, Carl Zeiss lens, and optical image stabilization, the Nokia Lumia 920 should let you capture amazing stills and footage, even as you move.
The display is 4.5 inches and boasts Corning Gorilla Glass and Nokia’s PureMotion HD+ display innovation. According to reports, the latter delivers lag-free navigation throughout the menu.
Save for the generous 32GB of storage—to make up for the lack of microSD expansion, no doubt—the insides of the Lumia 920 resemble that of the Lumia 820′s: 1.5GHz dual-core Krait chip, Adreno 225 graphics, and 1GB of RAM. Wireless charging comes standard fare as a bonus.

Nokia Lumia 920 specs:

- Adreno 225 GPU
- 1GB RAM

- 1.3-megapixel front camera
- 4.5-inch display with Corning Gorilla Glass and PureMotion HD+ technology (1280 x 768 resolution; 332 pixel density)
- 2000mAh battery
- Window Phone 8 OS
Local pricing remains classified as of this writing. However, we’re willing to argue that the Lumia 820 and the Lumia 920 will have price tags similar to those of the Lumia 800 and the Lumia 900 when they first hit retail stores in the Philippines.
