If you’ve been holding out for an affordable dual-core, dual-SIM smartphone with a big-ass display, then you’re in luck. Say hello to the Samsung Galaxy S III’s cousin MyPhone A919 Duo, the forthcoming 5-inch Android variant from the guys responsible for the 4.3-inch MyPhone A878 Duo.

Officially priced cheaper than most kids on the block, especially considering how massive this thing is, the A919 Duo will retail at P7,999.

Designed to go toe-to-toe with other China-bred Android heavyweights, the MyPhone A919 Duo nudges itself towards phablet territory, wielding a 5-inch touchscreen which benefits from in-plane switching [IPS] for improved viewing angles and outdoor visibility.

Equally impressive—at least on paper—are its insides, which make use of a MediaTek MT6577 processor with two cores clocked at 1GHz, similar to those of the Cherry Mobile Titan and the Starmobile Astra. Operation is buffered by a PowerVR SGX531 graphics chip and 512MB of RAM.

Underneath the removable cover is a microSD expansion slot to complement the reasonably paltry 4GB of flash memory and a 2000mAh cell to hopefully keep the phone up past the first day. The 8-megapixel optic round the MyPhone A919 Duo’s back likely figures to deliver satisfying results even in dimmer conditions given the presence of dual-LED flash modules.

According to a MyPhone executive, the A919 Duo ships with Android Ice Cream Sandwich on tap and is due for release next week—just in time for holiday smartphone-giving.

I just bought an A919 yesterday. mind you, it is not easy to find. i had to walk through the entire length of park square to find a store that has it. when i did, i was told that i had to wait until 2.15 pm, delivery time. when i waited, i learned that there were only 10 units delivered to them. later that day, the A919 went of stock, again. my thoughts on this device? one word. SULIT. for the money i paid, it’s like having a samsung note, without the pen. whatever these big name smartphones can do, the A919 can do too. android levels the playing field. durability is another matter and that will take a year or so to find out. but for now, i am loving the A919.

maganda sana kung may TV na rin sana.

    • Araullian Nerd Guy

look for Star Mobile Astra… may TV ang Android ICS nila… but for me, sa totoo lang, ang baduy pag may TV na.

      • Ken

I have it- the Astra. Bought it two weeks ago. And I can’t agree with you when you said it’s cheap/baduy having the TV feature. I think Star Mobile put it in there because of “utility” purposes and for the past few days the TV function has served me well. While doing an overtime at the office, I can still catch the primetime news with Astra around. Just saying. By the way, Astra looks more stunning compared with Myphone and Cherry Mobile’s Android ICS handsets.
